Despite the name “Chinese Checkers”, this game was actually invented in Germany in the 1800s, and in most parts of the world is known as “Sternhalma” or “Stern-Halma”. Stern translates to “star” and “Halma” is an American game that this game was based on.
This game board is engraved onto the top of a 10 inch wooden hexagonal box. The decorative embellishment is one of my own drawings based on the “Fraktur” art style, which was popular among German-Americans during the time this game was invented.
The box opens up to store the pieces and instruction book inside. The inside of the box is lined with velour.
The game pieces are cast from gypsum cement, a natural material which is similar to concrete. They are copies of an original piece that I made on a small pottery wheel. The bottom of each piece is lined with felt to help them slide smoothly across the board and protect the game board from scratches.
What’s included: 10 inch wooden game board/box, 60 handcrafted playing pieces (10 of each color), and printed booklet with history and instructions for the game.
* WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD — Small parts.
Not intended for children under 3 yrs.
* Please be aware that due to the nature of the materials, and that each piece is made individually by hand, there may be some slight variation in color/grain/texture.
