This hand crafted Royal Game of Ur set folds into a box that holds all the pieces, dice, and instructions.
The Royal Game of Ur is a 2 player game from ancient Mesopotamia. Surviving boards have been dated to around 2600-2400 BC, making it one of the oldest known board games: and currently the oldest game that we have instructions for how it was played thousands of years ago.
This compact game set includes a hand painted, laser engraved wooden board that folds into a box that holds all the game pieces, instructions, and dice. The game pieces are also hand made and are cast from cement which gives them a weighty feel. The interior of the box is lined with velour.
The triangular dice are one of the traditional types of dice that ancient people of Mesopotamia used to play this game. These dice are cast from concrete and have a stone-like look, weight, and feel.

As a one-person shop, I design and hand-craft each of my games myself: from the sculptures and board artwork, to the research and writing for the instruction booklets. Most are one-of-a-kind in some way, as I’m continuously iterating and updating the designs. Each one is special to me, and I hope they bring joy to their new homes. 🙂
