Pachisi was first played in ancient times in India, and is the predecessor to many modern games such as Ludo and Parcheesi.
This hand painted game board is engraved on top of a wooden box, which has space inside to hold the game pieces and instruction booklet. The hand painted pottery style game pieces are cast from gypsum cement, a mineral based material that has been in use for thousands of years. They are cast copies of clay pieces that I made on a miniature pottery wheel.
This game also includes traditional genuineĀ cowrie shells as counters. In historic times these were used as dice to determine the moves a player could take.
The 10 inch game box is hand painted with translucent colors that allow the wood grain to show through. The board is engraved into the top of the box.
The interior of the box is lined with velvet, and a small drawstring bag is included to keep the pieces together inside the box. An instruction booklet is also provided with information about the history of the game.
* WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD — Small parts.
Not intended for children under 3 yrs.
* Please be aware that due to the nature of the materials, and that each piece is made individually by hand, there may be some slight variation in color/grain/texture.
