“Queen’s Guards” (also known as “Agon” or “Royal Guards”) is an engaging two player strategy game. It’s often called a “Chess Variant”, however the game mechanics are very different from chess, as the goal is not to capture the enemy, but to reach the center of the board. This game was invented during the Victorian era and may be the oldest known 2 player hexagonal board game.
The wooden hexagonal box has the game board engraved onto the top. The inside of the box is lined with dark blue velour.
The game pieces were cast from gypsum cement – a material which has been used since ancient times. The type that I use has a strength similar to concrete, but with a smooth white texture that makes it easier to paint. The “Queen” piece is a cast copy of an original sculpture that I carved by hand. The game also comes with an instruction booklet and a velvet pouch that holds the pieces securely inside the box.
What’s included: 10×11.5 inch wooden game board/box, 14 playing pieces (Each player has 1 queen and 6 guards ), and printed booklet with history and instructions for the game.
* WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD — Small parts.
Not intended for children under 3 yrs.
* Please be aware that due to the nature of the materials, and that each piece is made individually by hand, there may be some slight variation in color/grain/texture.
