The Royal Game of Ur is a 2 player game from ancient Mesopotamia. Surviving boards have been dated to around 2600-2400 BC, making it one of the oldest known board games: possibly the oldest game that we have instructions for how it was played thousands of years ago.
The game pieces are hand painted and are cast from cement which gives them a weighty stone-like feel.
This game also includes wooden throwing sticks, which are the traditional counters that ancient people used before dice became popular. They are engraved on one side (engraving patterns may vary from the photos).
The compact size makes it easy to travel with or carry with you to game nights, family get togethers, or to take with you on your next camping trip. It would make a lovely gift for history lovers and game enthusiasts alike.
The artwork engraved on the wooden box is based on an ancient cylinder seal that is believed to have belonged to Khashkhamer – vassal to the king of Ur. The scene depicts Nanna, the Sumerian moon god, and protector of the city of Ur.
Color Options: Choose between the historic colors of lapis blue or ochre red for the color of the game pieces.
